Our history
Eight Decades of Faith
The story of First Christian Community Baptist Church begins not with a building, but with a burden — a group of neighbors who wanted a place to worship God with their families.
1945
The Founding
On November 25, 1945, a small group of concerned neighbors gathered at 1700 Bob White Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland. Under the leadership of Rev. James H. Cornish, they organized what would become First Christian Community Baptist Church. The congregation began with humble means but an unshakeable conviction.
1950s
Growth & Roots
Through the 1950s, the congregation grew steadily. Sunday School flourished, auxiliaries were established, and the church became a cornerstone of the community. The Missionary Society, Usher Board, and Choirs were organized during this formative decade.
1960s–70s
A New Home
As the congregation outgrew its original location, the church began planning for a permanent home. In 1975, the congregation marched triumphantly into their new church building at Groveland Avenue and Eldorado Avenue — a moment of celebration and answered prayer.
1980
Burning the Mortgage
In 1980, the congregation celebrated one of its greatest milestones: the burning of the mortgage. The church building was paid in full — a testament to the faithfulness and sacrifice of every member who gave, prayed, and believed.
1990s–2000s
Continued Ministry
The church continued to grow in ministry and membership through the final decades of the 20th century and into the new millennium. New programs were launched, youth ministry expanded, and the church deepened its roots in the Baltimore community.
Today
Carrying the Legacy Forward
Today, First Christian Community Baptist Church stands as a living monument to the faith of its founders. Under the leadership of Rev. Alphonso Tucker, we continue to worship, serve, and grow — honoring the past while building boldly for the future.
